The Contrabass and the curved sopranino survived unaltered for years and years.ĭespite the looks your horn is a post WWII horn. They were famous for their clarinets which were updated more than their saxophone were. Yours is the more common student model which has also been stenciled under many other brands( Orsi made many stencils), they made also a more modern model which had a different type of bell to body brace shaped like an oval ( many say it looks like an eye). Founded by Romeo Orsi in 1836, they were one of the most important saxophone makers in Italy and made the range from curved sopranino ( for many years they were the only ones who made this instrument) to the huge contrabass ( for many years they were the last making this instrument before many others tok to produce low sounding saxophones). Orsi is a company (despite their site being " under (re) construction " they still exist although they, until not so long ago, re-sold saxophones which they no longer made themselves) making woodwinds an brass instruments. You see in the middle of the page a search box, type " Orsi Milano" you get 52 hits ( yours is in it) Second, try to familiarize with the search function there is quite a bit of information already on Orsi (and on almost anything else!). I'm looking for a project but needs to be worthwhile. Looks to have had a rod replaced and a re-solder or 2 - there is a Japanese receipt for repairs from 1988.Īnyone know anything about Orsi - can't find much. Has a selmer ligature but the mouthpiece has no marking at all and feels plastic rather than hard rubber. No dents and all pads close - pads vary and spring tensions need adjusting and some lubrication would help. Took a new reed with me and gave it a blow - seems to play well considering the age it looks to be (and that I've only ever played tenor). Not much provided about the provenance - comes from a deceased estate. I've found a vintage Orsi Milano Alto Sax Serial D4344 for sale. I'm relatively new here and this is my first "real" post.
